2023 Ironman 70.3 Marbella.

mmtriathlete

Unfortunately, the race didn’t go to plan.

After Gran Canaria, I got sick and ended up having a couple of days in bed before starting back training. When Starting back the sessions didn’t feel good so ended up having some more days off. The Monday before the race I was able to put together a positive bike-to-run session which made me excited to race. Then the next day I woke up with a cold, not ideal.

I put on a brave face all week trying to stay positive.

The race started well and I was optimistic about what the day would bring. The swim was choppy meaning it was hard to break away. 4 of us came into T1 together and I was out on the bike first. I settled into a rhythm before looking at my Wahoo to see my HR in the high 180 and my power to be lower than normal.

The course was 56 miles with 5,000ft of climbing and the first climb was over 20mins long. Up the first climb, it was like I was standing still, athlete after athlete coming passed and I had nothing to give. I tried to stay positive but I was getting cold and couldn’t take on any nutrition. Halfway around a knew the race was over and I needed to get back.

Even though I DNF I'm still overall happy with the way my season has started Gran Canaria coming 3rd shows I’m in great shape and with a good block of training I'm looking forward to what’s to come. The next race isn’t confirmed yet but looking like it could be Challenge Salou on the 4th of June.

Thanks for all the support
